We were official communications partner for the Department for the Economy’s Geothermal Demonstrator project, known as GeoEnergy NI. Working with lead consortium partner Tetra Tech the now multi-award-winning project explored the geothermal potential in Northern Ireland and sought to demystify this renewable energy source. While well-established elsewhere in the world, geothermal energy is still relatively unknown here and is seen a key part of our efforts to meet net zero targets as set out in the Northern Ireland Energy Strategy.

We developed a comprehensive and fully integrated communications programme which included design, PR and stakeholder engagement, event management, video production, digital and social media tools designed to inform and educate the public and key stakeholders about geothermal energy and deliver positive engagement and awareness of the demonstrator projects. The project focused on geothermal explorations in the Stormont Estate in Belfast and near CAFRE’s Greenmount campus in Antrim.
Our work started with the creation of a project name and brand identity which is now applied across all materials against agreed brand guidelines. We also conducted market research to benchmark public awareness and understanding levels of geothermal energy.

As well as managing all media and stakeholder engagement including delivering the project launch event, we delivered a comprehensive project website (https://www.geoenergyni.org) , introductory animation, video case studies, project brochures/leaflets, quarterly newsletters and a range of other promotional materials to support the campaign. We also established project social media channels and managed the ongoing content calendars throughout.
We delivered the design and build of a Mobile Visitor Centre called the GeoEnergy Discovery Centre which was central to the public outreach programme. We supported this with a targeted roadshow across Northern Ireland visiting schools and other stakeholders as well as attending large scale public events such as the Balmoral Show. We also managed a targeted advertising campaigns across print and digital platforms to promote the project and the Mobile Visitor Experience.
We filmed and delivered a documentary film to capture the full story behind the project and used this as an educational vehicle to inform people about the heat beneath our feet.
The campaign has already won various awards including ‘Sustainability Project of the Year’ at the 2025 Business Eye ESG Awards and ‘Best Public Sector campaign’ at the 2025 PRCA DARE Awards. Most recently it won ‘Green Marketing/ Stakeholder Engagement Initiative of the Year’ and ‘Education for Sustainability Award’ at the 2016 All-Ireland Sustainability Awards.
