In Spring 2024, our production team worked with the PSNI on the production of four scripted short dramas for the high profile PSNI campaign Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).

The aim of the films is to highlight low level, socially unacceptable behaviour primarily from men towards women. Our team used their broadcast experience to script, cast, shot list, source props and locations.

Filming for this project involved being out filming on location for two days with four new actors each day. It was vital to the campaign’s success that we created the most realistic scenarios and therefore needed to have the right props which included a double decker bus – filming in it whilst driving around Belfast.

The most important element of the films were the important messages conveyed. Each film dealt with a particular situation such as the gym, the bus, the locker room and out walking, where women and girls may feel alone, vulnerable or uncomfortable. We took these scenarios, highlighted the bad behaviour and represented the thoughts of someone looking on who may consider ‘intervening’. Each film ended with the offender receiving truthful feedback from their accompanying friend.

The high-profile campaign was successfully launched by our Events Team at the SSE Cineworld complex, in front of a prestigious audience, which included Northern Ireland’s First Minister Michelle O’Neill.
